Steps To Build Your Own Electrical Grounding System
Most households nowadays are wired in such a way that the grounding system forms an integral part of the electrical framework. A green-colored wire takes the errant electrical charges from the circuits and deposits them in the ground. This ground wire runs throughout the electrical setup of your home.
Earlier the grounding systems used to rely heavily on the main power station from where the electricity is received. Now the grounding systems are more suitably established either in the locality or within the house setup.
The grounding system allows the errant electrical charges to be discharged safely into the ground. Hence potential electrical hazards are prevented owing to the dissipation of excess voltage.
The grounding systems discharge the errant voltage into the ground so that it doesn’t create any threat to the electrical setup of your home. Generally the electronic devices such as high-frequency welders, radio frequency setups etc. are prone to electrical aberrations. Such devices call for the establishment of an affiliated grounding system.
In order to setup a grounding system, you will need a ground rod (copper), a hammer, an anti-corrosion compound, appropriate screwdrivers, pliers, copper wire, a connector (to connect the ground rod to the wires) and a ground plate (copper).
Kick off the campaign by planting the copper rod in the ground. Make sure that the rod is installed outside the home and close to the grounding system. Grab a hammer and force the rod into the ground in such a way that a portion of the rod lies above the ground. This would help the rod to connect to the copper wires that lead to the concerned electronic or electrical device. Clean off the head of the rod with a rug and apply a good amount of an anti-corrosion compound on it. This would help in building a genuine conductor path for years to come. Screw the ends of a connector to the rod and tighten it well.
Once the connector is in place, attach a solid copper wire to it. Take the other end of the wire to the access point of the concerned electronic or electrical device and wire it to the grounding system. In addition, place a copper plate on the setup to render final finish to the system.
